The 'Books and Bookmen' magazine was published by Hansom from the early 1950s and was aimed primarily at avid readers, and book collectors. They are full of rare book reviews, interviews with the authors, and features on the writer's of the day. Illustrated throughout with photographs.
It is the loveliest magazine ever. I discovered in early 1975 and read it faithfully until it suddenly disappeared in 1980. In was revived a year or two later but some of the excellence was gone and the magazine did not long survive. I didn't know the earlier version which featured interviews, profiles and even fiction as well as book reviews. By the mid-Seventies, the book was made up entirely of reviews. Harold Acton, Auberon Waugh, Christopher Sykes, A.L. Rowse and Diana Mosley were monthly reviewers.
